it's to do with the service you are hitting and the security set on that
service. ping is a different animal than sql server...but it too can be
shut
off. your network admin will completely understand this error message and
can remedy it if he sees fit.
btw...you are NOT pinging sql server but the server on which you have ms
sql
server installed.
