Obviously it depends on how complex you need the database to be, and of
course, whether or not you intend to keep the data files on the USB disk
or
the local machine.
I would think Microsoft Works Database is very basic and compact...
however,
my experience with databases in general (off the shelf) tends to
inherently
default to the c drive for file storage even though you could install it
wherever you want. Would probably result in some extra steps.
I don't use it (even though it's on my machine as part of the "works"
package,) which is the super basic version of the Microsoft Office Suite
which is what most folk use these days, except for the miserable database
"access" which is also part of the MS Suite.
I would also consider one of the minimized versions as used on Windows
based
handhelds as a possible alternative.
