Thanx everyone for your input[s]. The covering ****tal thing just
didn't want to work for me for some reason
In the end we created an off-layout table of fields for the data
entry.
Then made a text calculation field "math subjects" to bring it all
together, with a case calculation regarding "status =3D outstanding"
Then we made another status field to say "outstanding" or whatever
other status.
So, when the status field was set to "outstanding", nothing happened,
but when the status was changed from "outstanding" to "enrolled" or
"completed" the text calculation field "math subjects" was populated
with the calculated text, brought in from the subject entry fields.
This turned out to be a simpler and better solution - I'll be handing
this database onto filemaker new-users. I think this "old fa****oned"
approach will be better for later editing
