CRN - Computer Reseller News , a CMP publication...
April 28th issue.
IBM insert in the plastic wrap. Its a SWG advert.
Interesting notes:
1) Information Management pillar had 5 products listed. The most of any
bra=
nd ...
2) Note to Jerry K. Does it make sense to sell IDS as "Self Managing data
s=
erver for mid-market business" and sell IBM DB2 Express as the " Ideal
entr=
y level server" ?
I mean no offense, but if the selling point is price (you get what you pay
=
for...) how does DB2 Express' TCO stack up to IDS over the first 5 years?
3) And of course there were obvious entries for DB2 (DB2 Express, BCE, DB2
=
Warehouse Starter Edition)
Note: BCE is now Balanced Warehouse C1000=20
So the good news is that IDS is getting out there. The not so good news is
=
that the position statement isn't a clear as it could be.
Inside the edition, IBM Information Management beat out Oracle, Microsoft,
=
MySQL in terms of customer (meaning the var) sup****t.
Its nice to see an IBM SWG advertisement. But it would be nice to see more
=
mention of IDS. The press say (DB2 and their other Information products,
no=
t mentioning IDS by name....)
But hey! What do I know?
Client Reps, and SSRs run with DB2 first, if at all. After all, they'd
rath=
er sell IGS,Oracle/DB2, and Websphere and capture more $$$ than sell a
supe=
rior product that doesn't require as much hand holding... ;-)
-G
PS. Where's those TPC.org benchmarks? Any more DB2 TPC-C benchmarks coming
=
out? :-P
