You may set an Environment Variable before starting the Informix Server:

TRACECKPT=1; ex****t TRACECKPT

The checkpoints will be more chatty and you can see what needs more time:
writing to disk or sessions in critical section.

With onstat -C you can see what the BTSCANNERS are doing. If you find
mostly leaf scans then this could be the reason for the long checkpoints.
