Re: [Info-Ingres] E_DM930C_DM0P_PAGE_CHKSUM_FAIL

Hi Karl,

I'll take up swapping out the controller cards with the Sysprog. But
given the long time between incidents we'd have to have the new card in
place for at least two months to be confident that it had solved the
problem.

I've managed to repair the database by recovering from an old
checkpoint. I was able to show on an alternate recovery platform that
the most recent checkpoint had the corrupted file, but its predecessor
didn't. Rolling the journals didn't recreate the problem on the table.

Furthermore, on the alternate site, I recovered the 'bad' checkpoint and
tried a verifydb in run mode on the table to see if it would patch it.
It dropped the tables two indexes, re****ted the bad checksum and then
fixed the table at the cost of two rows of data.

So at the moment, it looks like a recover is the best option. Fortunatly
the database is small (<5G) and the turn around in recovery time is
short enough that no one cares.

Marty

We had some checksum problems on some of our very early boxes, due to
problems with a Highpoint SATA RAID card. That got fixed eventually.
I can't say that I've ever seen a software cause for faulty checksums,
but that doesn't mean it couldn't happen.

With the progression you describe, I might be inclined towards
blaming hardware. Is it feasible to swap out controller cards?

Karl
