delete a named instance - how?

by aj <ronald@[EMAIL PROTECTED] > May 27, 2008 at 10:41 AM

SQL Server 2005

I have an empty named instance on my SQL Server 2005 server. Not
the default instance, but a secondary named instance. I would like
to completely delete this named instance w/o touching the default
instance.

How do I do this?

I see various things when I google, some of which say that I have to
uninstall and reinstall SQL Server 2005! Is this really necessary?
Some say that I have to do registry surgery?

As an aside, as part of this, I tried to get to
http://sup****t.microsoft.com/kb/290991,
and I get 404 not found. I have seen this with other MS KB URL's as
well. Has the URL protocol/format changed for MS KB?

Any help appreciated.

A freshly minted SQL Server DBA...

aj
