Hi Tony,

I came into the office intending to try the shorter :PRIV:
on the offending machine.

The system was running when I came in.

I launched Paradox, opened the form that causes the GPFs,
entered a test disbursement, clicked on the "total for this
check" button that generated the GPFs, but, to my surprise,
it displayed the total properly.

So, I repeated the above. Many times...

I could not generate the GPF no matter what I tried.

Next, I re-booted, repeated the whole drill, and again,
there were no GPFs. I simply could not recreate the GPF
problem.

But as I did all this, I did notice that the labels on
fields were "breaking up" in an odd way: It appeared as if
tiny "pieces" of the individual characters were being
attracted to, and then attaching to the next character. The
font was not TrueType; it was MS Sans Serif.

I soon saw that if I closed Paradox, re-launched it, and
opened the form in design mode, it looked fine.

But then, if I clicked to run the form, the font broke up as
I have described.

If, at that point, I put it back into design mode, the
characters remained "damaged."

When I saw that, I saved the form, then copied it to create
another.

On that second form, I changed the labels to Arial, and
after several tries that seems stable.

So that is the current status...

I am well aware that diagnosing such a situation is all the
more difficult if it is intermittent, but that is where we
stand right now.

I have not, by the way, shortened the length of the :PRIV:
path at this point because I don't want to further confound
my variables.
