What do FAM, PX, TV, VAL designate?

px is the primary index (we call it the 'key')
val is the validity file, which holds info like lookup links, field 
'picture' strings, etc

the fam (family) and tv (table view) files are things that occasionally
were 
used for interactive customization control in early pdoxwin versions..
