Brian, what you describe is exactly the sort of work that's done here
at Nebula R&D. Web GUI with various tools (now a lot more nifty Ajax
components too), and various types of interfaces between MV/Pick and
Excel, Outlook, Word, and many other popular applications.

Yes, it's very possible to use Excel as a GUI for your MV environment.
In fact, it can be ideal since you can hire anyone with advanced Excel
skills to do your GUI, rather than a "GUI developer" as we tend to
discuss in these forums. That said, I may not recommend this approach
- your specific goals would need to be discussed to help decide which
tools may be appropriate.

Our most recent product for Excel is called NebulaXLite and so far
people seem to love it. This allows your application to generate
nicely formatted Excel do***ents (compliant with Goole Spreadsheets
and OpenOffice) rather than plain-text delimited CSV files. It's not
the GUI data entry you want, but good for rendering data which users
can then manipulate later. For anyone who has NebulaXLite, it's time
for another small release and I will get to that within the next week
or two - check the Nebula R&D Forum.
