OpenEdge Advanced GUI

Last year, OpenEdge announced sup****t for a new integrated user
interface in ABL based on Microsoft .NET technologies. This year that
vision has formed the basis for an OpenEdge Client environment that
sup****ts .NET user interface components natively in the ABL on
Windows. Using ABL language and an integrated WYSIWYG designer in
OpenEdge Architect, an ABL developer will be able to create a user
interface with .NET components. While the release of this technology
is in the future, OpenEdge developers can gain an early understanding
of the WYSIWYG development environment and UI programming model. See a
demonstration of the WYSIWYG designer to build a form with data
binding and integrated events calling ABL event handlers. This session
will be delivered via WebEx technology by Shelley Chase, OpenEdge
Architect, at Progress Software.
Real People Doing Real Work

Taking a step back from all the "latest and greatest", this talk is
aimed providing a broad spectrum of real world "use it now" tips and
examples. We'll cover the basics of such things as generating PDF
files for print jobs, sending email from Progress, linking directly
from Progress into Excel or Word, calling Windows APIs from Progress
and more. Whether your interface is character, graphical or web-
based, you will walk away with new tools that you can use immediately
to add flash and functionality to your existing code. For the
administrators, we will also cover those "got to have" scripts and
resources that automate and simplify the maintenance of a typical
Progress system. From information sources comparing common Unix
utilities across platforms to rock solid scripts for implementing warm-
sparing and more.
