Speculating about assumptions seems too much like work to me.  It's bad 
enough having clients who don't know what they want--just that they want
it 
NOW!  Maybe this assignment is designed to expose students to what they
can 
expect when they graduate--sort of a 'weed out the feint hearted'
exercise.
