Why the invisible BROWse window?

by AstroSurf <user@[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Jan 21, 2005 at 12:22 PM

I'm using 5.7. I do NOT use programs or components or any other disco
stuff, I just type immediate mode commands.

Sometimes (read: regularly) when I type BROW I get no _visible_ window.
The Window menu shows a Table Records window and shows that it's active
(and it is!) but the window *does NOT appear*. When I hit ESC, the
(unseen) window closes, the Command window regains focus, the Table
Records entry in the Window menu goes away.

I then have to use dBase for Windows 5.0 (which doesn't exhibit the bug)
for some period of time. Helps to use it on the affected table AND seems
to help to reboot before re-attempting with VdB 5.7.

This drives me NUTS and has for years. Is this an avoidable bug? Can
anything be done (short of acquiring newer software)?

5.0 is less satisfying to work with than 5.7. I wish I could just tweak
a byte or whatever and be good to go again.

Assuming that SOME VdB5.7 users (or former users) still look at this
group, any suggestions?
