     I have used both approaches.  I prefer to use macro substitution
where possible.  That way, I can still have the statement expressed
with my usual indentation style.  Most of my substitutions are where
expressions or parts of them or the tables/cursor.  e.g.
          select * from cwko;
          where wostatus="B" and &dateexp;
          into cursor (alwolist)
I can not remember a case where I have fiddled with column names.
