Seeing at in independant from any gotfocus or other events:

You want the data of a form to be stored to disk before
a secondary form runs on that data, right?

Then you'd save before that form is losing the focus.
You could use it's deactivate or lostfocus method.

To detect if there are changes pending, check
GETNEXTMODIFIED() to find changes in
table buffers that need to be saved by TABLEUPDATE().

That is if you work with tables and buffering or
buffered views.
